I came across CACAY OIL and wanted to make a lotion out of it. My skin has been craving hydrating lotions lately and I came up with this recipe and my skin is loving it at the moment! Previous lotions I have made a pretty watery and although it is hydrating it doesn't give me the satisfying application feeling and it feels like my skin drinks it all and gets dry after a while and I have to reapply. So I have added a few extra ingredients that I think has made this recipe extra well tolerated by my skin:
HYALURONIC ACID is naturally present in human tissues such as skin, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. HA has the ability to penetrate the skin providing moisture to viscous and elastic levels.
PROVITAMIN B5 or D Panthenol functions as a humectant, helping skin tissues to retain moisture, and to stay soft and elastic.
GLYCERIN (plant derived) is a humectant and works to moisturise the skin by drawing water from the air into the skin's outer layer. It also forms a protective layer that helps prevent moisture loss.
XANTHAM GUM is my recent favourite ingredient haha it really helps stabilize and thicken the lotion making it absolutely perfect consistency for me when applying to the skin.
I add these above few ingredients in the last phase to make sure the heat doesn't change much of it's original structure. Remember to premix xanthum gum in the Cacay oil in the last phase so it doesn't lump up when mixing in with the

Recipe follows:
LIQUID PHASE 80%
14% Colloidal oatmeal ^
40% Water
13% Aloe gel
7% Glycerin
2% Naturogard powder (or your own choice of preservative)
OIL PHASE 20%
9% Shea butter*
5% Hemp oil*
5% Emulsifier-E
1% Vitamin E
LAST PHASE (slowly add ingredients in while stirring mixture)
3% Chamomile extract
3% Provitamin B5
3% Hyaluronic Acid
1-2% Essential /fragrance oil
5% Cacay oil
0.03% Xanthan gum (premix with oil)
*organic
^ To make colloidal oatmeal liquid -use 2 Tbs of oatmeal in 1 cup of boiling, mix well and sit for 5 mins. Strain before use
NOTE: You can replace any raw ingredient in the recipe with your favourite oil/liquid. The final product outcome will vary depending on what type/brand of raw ingredient you use e.g., some brands of aloe vera gels have a thicker consistency and some others are more fluid.
